Even at 81 years young, Woody Allen’s work rate continues to be the stuff of legend. For generations, the prolific filmmaker has operated at a remarkably brisk clip, churning out one quirky feature after another, and culminating with the release of last year’s somewhat forgettable romantic dramedy Café Society.

But a mixed reception has never stopped Allen before and sure enough, the director is behind the lens once again for Wonder Wheel, a 1950s-set period drama in which Justin Timberlake takes point as a lifeguard. Seen above alongside Juno Temple and the Oscar-winning Kate Winslet, Timberlake’s character will reportedly have some sort of romantic dalliance with Winslet’s, while Tony Sirico’s mysterious character is the one threatening to throw a spanner in the works.

Set under the grand shadow of Coney Island’s iconic Ferris wheel – known locally as the ‘Eiffel Tower of Brooklyn’ – Wonder Wheel also stars Jim Belushi, Jack Gore, Steve Schirripa, and Max Casella. In fashion typical of Woody Allen, there are precious few story details available at the moment, but down below, you’ll find a recent interview that Page Six conducted with the legendary filmmaker, in which he discusses the logistics of recreating the famous Parachute Jump circa 1950.

“This movie’s set in the ’50s, and we’re re-creating the Parachute Jump. Even sunny beaches. It’s no longer my job to have to run around and find that anymore. Today we live in the future. While I’m home, some nerd wearing glasses in an office with a computer turns dials and creates sunny beaches. Justin Timberlake, Jim Belushi, Juno Temple are in this. We’re filming in The Bronx and all over the city.”

Wonder Wheel, Woody Allen’s 47th feature film, is expected to launch later this year. After striking up a working relationship with his Crisis in Six Scenes series, Amazon Studios will reportedly distribute the period flick after lending financial support to the tune of $25 million.
