Charlize Theron and Neighbors: Sorority Rising star Seth Rogen have closed deals to headline Flarsky, a new comedy from 50/50 helmer Jonathan Levine.

Deadline has the scoop, confirming that both Theron and Rogen have signed on to produce and star in the feature film, which will see the latter take point as an unemployed journalist “battered by his own misfortune and self-destructive ways, who endeavors to pursue Theron’s character — who was his childhood crush and babysitter and now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on earth.”

Renown comedy scribe Dan Sterling (The Office, South Park) is the brains behind the screenplay, with all signs pointing to a production start in August. Incidentally, August will also see the release of the Charlize Theron-fronted MI6 movie Atomic Blonde – formerly titled The Coldest City – which is one of many projects lining the actress’ slate. There’s also Universal sequel The Fate of the Furious, a potential sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and, as we learned earlier this week, CIA thriller Need to Know.

Seth Rogen, meanwhile, will soon co-star in James Franco’s The Disaster Artist, which is prepped and ready for its world premiere at next month’s SXSW 2017. Beyond that, the fan-favorite has also teed up AI comedy Singularity, which received a pilot order over at Fox late last year.

An August start date is the target for Flarsky, signalling that Levine, Theron and Rogen will have the finished product ready for a theatrical release sometime in 2018. Does this take the former out of the running for Suicide Squad 2? It certainly seems so, particularly when you consider that Mel Gibson is reportedly first choice to take the reins.
