Get The Inside Scoop On Kong: Skull Island’s Post-Credits Scene

Flickering Myth has posted a detailed overview of the post-credits scene included with the release of Kong: Skull Island.

Logan may not be tethered with a post-credits sequence at launch – James Mangold’s actioner instead features a wonderful glimpse at Ryan Reynolds back in the Deadpool suit – but make no mistake, you’ll want to hang around after the credits roll on Kong: Skull Island.

Pegged for release on March 10th, Jordan Vogt-Roberts’s sky-scraping creature feature will follow in the monstrous footsteps of Godzilla to become the second entry into Warner Bros. and Legendary’s interconnected MonsterVerse. Given Skull Island is angled as a prequel, one that takes place during the height of the Vietnam War, many fans have been left wondering how exactly the Powers That Be plan to bridge the gap between each movie in time for Godzilla: King of the Monsters stomping into theaters in two years’ time. Well, wonder no more. Flickering Myth attended an early screening of Kong: Skull Island, and has now posted a detailed, spoiler-heavy overview of the scene online.

Consider this your final warning.

Still with us? According to the outlet, once Skull Island‘s credits wrap up, the voice of Tom Hiddleston’s James Conrad rings out, asking “why are you sitting in the darkness?” Whether or not that’s a cheeky wink to the audience is something we’ll leave to you, but as the scene unfolds, it’s revealed that Hiddleston’s character is actually talking through a two-way mirror, and is hemmed up in an interrogation room with Brie Larson’s Mason Weaver.

From there, the two survivors swear to secrecy, before Corey Hawkins’ Houston Brooks drops a bombshell: Kong is not the only God left on the planet. Cue the archival footage of Monarch dropping nukes in the Pacific, before a series of cave paintings present sketches of Gojira and three of his arch-enemies: Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. The final slide on the presentation cuts to a shot of Godzilla and Ghidorah locking horns, before the screen fades to black just as Gojira’s iconic roar reverberates around the theater. Looks like Legendary and Toho have reached a licensing agreement after all.

In terms of Skull Island, our own Matt Donato was a big fan of Kong’s mighty solo pic, writing that Skull Island is a “grand cinematic adventure powered by furry fury, as the horrors of war blend with chest-beating creature confidence.”

On March 10th, Kong: Skull Island will light up theaters the world over. It’ll lay the groundwork for Godzilla: King of the Monsters – Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga and Kyle Chandler are the only three stars currently locked in – ahead of its own launch on March 22nd, 2019.
