Coming to us via this weekend’s 2017 Kids’ Choice Awards, which also brought forth a new and indeed extended peek at Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight, the brief promo above casts light on, well, the more light-hearted side of Fee’s rip-roaring sequel. The return of Mater will no doubt please long-time fans of the Cars series, who can be seen dolling out some questionable advice to Owen Wilson’s bruised red stock car.

Stuck in a rut following a devastating crash, Lightning McQueen finds himself unknowingly pushed to the sidelines as a new generation of ice-cool racers takes control of the circuit. Wanting nothing more than to challenge for the Piston Cup once more, Wilson’s weary lead then begins to stage his Rocky-esque comeback, thanks to a helping hand from Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), the zippy, energetic co-star that nurses Lightning back on the road to recovery.

Rounding out the casting docket for Cars 3 are Cheech Marin, Bonnie Hunt, and Armie Hammer in addition to franchise newcomers including Nathan Fillion (Firefly) and Kerry Washington, the Scandal star who was allegedly in contention for the part of Domino in Deadpool 2 before the up-and-coming Zazie Beetz swooped in.

Cars 3 is set to zoom into theaters on June 16th, when Dave Mullins’ Lou, a six-minute animated short designed to be an analogy on bullying and growing up in strange surroundings, will screen before Lightning’s latest (and greatest?) adventure.
