Did you love Logan but think its gritty gloriousness would have been better served if it was filmed in black and white? Well, if you did, then you’re in luck, because the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the smash-hit movie will include a special monochrome version of the film as a bonus feature. If you can’t wait for the disc to release, however, you might want to check out the one-time screening of it later this month.
Dubbed Logan Noir, the monochrome movie will be shown in Alamo Drafthouse cinemas across the US on Tuesday, May 16th. The screening will be followed up with an exclusive livestream Q&A session with Logan director James Mangold – and you can get your tickets for the special event at the Alamo Drafthouse website.
Here’s how the company describes the screening:
“For one night only, prepare to re-immerse yourself in the bold and beautiful brutality of the final Wolverine story, presented in stunning black and white for the first time. Alamo Drafthouse is proud to present LOGAN NOIR, a new monochromatic vision of one of the greatest superhero films ever made, followed by an exclusive livestream Q&A with director James Mangold.”
If you’re interested in attending, you might want to know that there’s a strict dress code, as well as a free gift:
“Guests at LOGAN NOIR are urged to attend wearing only black and white clothing. As a parting gift commemorating Old Man Logan’s final ride, audience members in proper black and white attire will receive an exclusive commemorative event poster.”
Though Logan was never intended to be made in a black and white format, the early marketing materials for the movie often made use of monochrome, which kickstarted a fan campaign for a colourless cut of the film to be released. Luckily for them, they’ve now got their wish.
Logan is Hugh Jackman’s final time playing Wolverine, after seventeen years of donning the adamantium claws. It earned over $600 million dollars worldwide and many claim it to be one of the greatest comic book movies ever made – a sentiment we wholeheartedly agree with.
