For centuries – millennia, even – they have defended our world, but Transformers: The Last Knight will see that alliance shatter into a million pieces of junk and metal as today’s final international trailer attests.

We are, of course, referring to the longstanding alliance between human and Transformer – between flesh and metal – and after Paramount’s aggressive marketing campaign drew attention to the secret history of Transformers on Earth, this show-stopping promo blows the lid off The Last Knight to reveal one, simple fact: they have been here forever. Granted, that’s a feeling that many harbor toward the entire Transformers franchise, never mind the actual robots in disguise, but this international sizzle reel has us intrigued nevertheless.

Pegged to launch into theaters on June 21st, Michael Bay’s marquee blockbuster is at once a sequel to Age of Extinction and a new beginning for the Transformers universe as a whole, and the filmmaker has spoken in the past about how Paramount’s writers room has helped course-correct the series.

Casting-wise, Paramount and Michael Bay have recruited a who’s who of A-list talent, including Hollywood’s bankable supporting star John Goodman – he’s back in the booth to voice Hound, the hulking Autobot and healer – alongside the returning Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel. There’s also room in the film’s ranks for Age of Extinction‘s Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Stanley Tucci, Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock and Isabela Moner as the street-smart tomboy, Izabella. “Yeah, I fight like a girl…don’t you?”

“Two species at war – one flesh, one metal.” Transformers: The Last Knight will roar to life on June 21st, and it’ll herald something of a new chapter for Paramount’s CG-laden juggernaut.

Not only has the studio drawn up plans for a Bumblebee-centric spinoff – Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight has been appointed at the helm of that one – in 2018, but with a staggering 14 Transformers pitches reportedly doing the rounds at Paramount, those robots in disguise aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. The only question left now is whether Michael Bay will pull another U-turn in order to dabble in the TF universe once more. Stay tuned for more on that one.
