That’s a mere two weeks after the arrival of The Defenders, another of Marvel’s small-screen ventures that gathers together Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Iron Fist in the name of NYC. But if the Netflix team-up series is more concerned with the street-level heroes scattered across Harlem and Hell’s Kitchen, Inhumans is poised to whisk viewers off to the cosmos – to the moon, specifically – for its starry family saga.

And though the eight-part drama simply oozes potential, the first reviews have not been kind to the Inhumans, after critics called the show’s script, performances, and visual effects into question. In response, director Roel Reine leapt to its defense, stating that the adaptation itself is “still a work in progress.” Whether Reine’s comments are enough to allay fears that Inhumans is destined for failure, though, is another question entirely.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. As Inhumans draws near, and following the unveiling of some rather striking character posters, today’s first look promo is designed to clue you in on Marvel’s Royal Family.

And what a cast we have to look forward to. Headed up by former Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon as the scheming Maximus, the ensemble has also made room for Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Ken Leung as Karnak, Sonya Balmores as Auran, Ellen Woglom as Louise, Mike Moh as Triton and Isabelle Cornish as Crystal.

If you’re wanting to experience the show’s cinema-quality visual effects in all of their dazzling glory, you’ll be able to catch the opening two episodes of Inhumans on select IMAX theaters from September 1st. All eight episodes will then become available via ABC, where Marvel’s latest small-screen effort will be rubbing shoulders with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
