Supergirl Spotted On The Set Of Riverdale

By now, you're well aware that The CW is quite open to the idea of crossovers, but normally reserve them for DC TV shows or other series that already exist within the same universe like The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Well, a mysterious new image has found its way online that seems to suggest otherwise and has given us much to ponder.

Funnily enough, this strange situation technically involves one DC TV show, that being Supergirl, but the other comes as a bit of a surprise. Believe it or not, the series in question is that of Riverdale, another fine live action comic book adaptation, albeit spun from the Archie Comics universe.

Without further ado, here’s the picture that Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted on his Twitter page, with the accompanying caption of “Look who dropped in to #Riverdale for a visit! Worlds colliding!! Can a crossover be far behind??”

As we can plainly see, the Girl of Steel is seemingly joining Betty and Veronica for one of Pop’s malts. As for what this entails, well, that’s where it gets confusing. According to Screen Rant, Aguirre-Sacasa expressed interest in a crossover with the Arrowverse at WonderCon earlier this year, so maybe his wish has come true.

Granted, it would be awesome to see a true crossover happen, thus making Riverdale part of the DC TV multiverse, but we can’t rule out this possibly having been taken from a promo shoot for either some sort of television ad and/or for photos set to run in a major magazine. If that’s the case, we can hope that it helps get the ball rolling for an actual prime time mashup.

Supergirl returns for its third season on Monday, October 9 on The CW, with Riverdale coming back for its second on Wednesday, October 11.
