2017 hasn’t been the best year for Marvel and Netflix and their usually fruitful collaborations. Both Iron Fist and The Defenders didn’t make the kind of impact that we thought they would and fell a long way short of expectations. The first in terms of critical reception and the second due to its shockingly low viewing figures (making it the least watched Marvel/Netflix series of the lot). Their next effort, however, will hopefully put this corner of the MCU back on track.
Ever since Frank Castle blasted his way onto our screens in Daredevil season 2, fans have been dying to see him in his own spinoff – and that’s finally what we’re about to get in The Punisher. With its arrival on the streaming service fairly imminent, a short new promo for the series has been released on social media, and you can check it out up above.
The Punisher Twitter account shared the sixteen second video along with the ominous caption “Frank Castle is coming to collect,” referencing the show’s first teaser trailer. Admittedly, it’s not much, as all we really get is a short motion poster featuring the Punisher’s iconic skull symbol superimposed over Castle’s face, but it’s enough to have us excited.
We’ve already been promised that, now that he’s the star of his own show, The Punisher will explore the more “human side” of Frank Castle and focus on the intense grief he suffers from his family’s violent deaths. However, as this promo shows us, the series won’t exactly shy away from how terrifying and badass Frank is as well.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know exactly when The Punisher will arrive on Netflix. Initially, it was assumed that the series would land at some point in November, but a recent rumour pointed it to arriving in October instead. Either way, it’s going to be here some time soon and once we get a concrete date, we’ll be sure to let you know.
