Mike Colter Teases Heroes For Hire Arc In Luke Cage Season 2

It was inevitable that Marvel and Netflix would get to the Heroes For Hire eventually. You can't have Luke Cage and Iron Fist serving on the same team and not tackle their long running crime fighting partnership from the comics at some point, right? Well, now that the pair have met for the first time in this summer's The Defenders, Power Man and Danny Rand will indeed cross paths again in the upcoming second season of Luke Cage, as was revealed last month.

It wasn’t clear from the promo image we got (see below) whether the pair would formally found the Heroes For Hire organization in the next outing of the show, but some new comments that Mike Colter’s made go a long way to confirming that, yes, it’s definitely on the cards.

“There are people that love the idea of Heroes for Hire. When people saw The Defenders, they thought the relationship was good between Finn and I and they are curious. They want to see more of that. He will bring some fresh blood in the new season and I’m hoping that people will respond to it well. We are teamed up for a bit. That’s the whole point of bringing that flavour to it. I can see how this works. That’s what good about it. We’re giving people what they want.”

While we will be getting some Heroes For Hire goodness next season, Colter also let slip that Jessica Jones will not be appearing on Luke Cage anytime soon. Fans loved the hint that Luke and Jessica could be getting back together in The Defenders, but Colter explained that the writers decided to draw on the hero’s growing friendship with Danny instead for season 2.

“A lot of times people wanted to see Jessica Jones and Luke and what happens to them; but we went out on a limb, and decided to ‘let’s give a little heroes for hire somewhere in the season and see what happens.’ Hopefully people will respond to it.”

Lastly, Colter touched base on when we can expect to see Luke Cage return to Netflix. He wouldn’t clarify things too much, but says that he hopes it’ll drop somewhere in “the first quarter or first half” of 2018.

“It will be sometime next year. We’re not finished filming yet and after that, it’s based on timing and when they want to drop it. It’s like a record. ‘When do you want to drop it?’ Netflix has their own agenda and their own schedule, so I’ll assume it’s next year. How soon? I don’t know, but hopefully the first quarter or first half.”

In the meantime, the next Marvel/Netflix show out the door is The Punisher, which is likely to arrive next month.
