Doctor Who: Jenna Coleman All But Confirms Her Involvement In The 2017 Christmas Special

Former Doctor Who companion Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) has been teasing a role in this year's Christmas Special, Twice Upon a Time.

2017’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, “Twice Upon a Time,” is shaping up to be one for the ages.

On the one hand, it’ll signal something of a double whammy for Whovians: Peter Capaldi, the twelfth Time Lord to clamber into that famous TARDIS, is prepped and ready for his final appearance in the BBC sci-fi series, and will bow out alongside current showrunner Steven Moffat. A lap of honor is on the cards, then, but as one door closes, another one opens.

In their place, the Powers That Be have drafted in Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall, respectively, with the former poised to make her first true appearance in Doctor Who this festive season. Yes, “Twice Upon a Time” has all the makings of a Christmas delight, and that’s before you even factor in the extended cast. With Mark Gatiss on board, there have been rumblings of a surprise cameo from Clara Oswald, the former Doctor Who companion played by Jenna Coleman, and while appearing at the Belgium Comic-Con, the actress only added fuel to the fire.

When quizzed by one curious fan about her potential involvement in “Twice Upon a Time,” Coleman danced around the question, before confirming that she filmed goodbye messages to both Steven Moffat and Peter Capaldi.

All I’ll say is that from February to late August, I was filming on Victoria. I did film goodbye and leaving videos for Steven [Moffat] and Peter. It was good. I was literally outside a trailer saying ‘hi!’ on [a] phone. Maybe some rumors have come from there. I don’t know.

As Radio Times notes, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) returned to the fray back in 2013 in order to herald Matt Smith’s regeneration, so perhaps “Twice Upon a Time” will serve up a similar moment of fan-service for Jenna Coleman’s Clara? All will be revealed when Doctor Who returns this Christmas.
