Former Lost Showrunner Shuts Down Talk Of Potential Reboot

Series showrunner Carlton Cuse has given the definitive answer on a potential Lost reboot: it's not happening...not now, and perhaps not ever.

Despite claims that ABC’s Lost would stage a comeback in the not-so-distant future, former showrunner Carlton Cuse has given the final word on a potential reboot. And we’re sorry to disappoint.

While attending New York Comic-Con late last month, Cuse conceded that neither he nor co-creator Damon Lindelof have any plans to reboot Lost – not now, and perhaps not ever. With so many networks falling back on existing material (see: Lethal Weapon, Fargo, The Exorcist…to name but three), a vocal corner of the Internet has been desperately rooting for Lost to receive the same treatment.

According to Cuse, though, it’s just not on the cards:

[Co-creator] Damon [Lindelof] and I are pretty adamant about the fact that we don’t have any intentions of rebooting LOST. I know that there are a lot of shows that have been rebooted lately, but we are not on that path.

Since his time on the island, the writer-director has moved on to pastures anew, and has dabbled in a range of projects including Bates Motel and Jack Ryan – two series that are, incidentally, based on the films of yesteryear.

And though Carlton Cuse was pretty definitive, it’s worth bearing in mind that ABC could shop the project to other writers, resulting in a whole new form of mind-melting adventure. Here’s what Damon Lindelof said earlier this year about potentially handing over the keys to another scribe:

[I] hope that when that happens, whoever is doing it, doesn’t take the characters from the original LOST and put them in the new one. Because we worked so hard to end that show and to give [the survivors] some level of closure. I know there was some debate as to whether or not there was enough closure.

So, there you have it: Lost will remain in stasis for the foreseeable future, and perhaps that’s for the best.
