From Bronson to Fury Road to The Dark Knight Rises, the British thesp is known and loved for his raw, downright mesmerizing performances. And it looks like Venom is about to up the ante.

Pegged to arrive in 2018, the project has officially entered production in Atlanta, after leaked set photos brought us closer to Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his humble abode. Filming will likely continue into the new year, and though it’ll be a while yet before we get any kind of official look at the actor in character, we do have the next best thing today.

Straight from CCXP (Comic Con Experience) in Brazil, Collider has brought us some shots of what appears to be the first poster for Venom (seen in the gallery below, along with some recent fan art). While it’s not particularly revealing, there is one interesting thing to note about it, and that’s the look of the titular character. Though we’d had hints that Hardy would be donning the Agent Venom outfit for the film, it seems that’s not the case and instead, Sony will be using the iconic symbiote suit.

Again, it’s not much, but with this poster now out in the wild, it’s clear that the studio is at least starting to plan the spinoff’s marketing campaign, which means much more should arrive soon. Until then, we can tell you that behind the lens, Ruben Fleischer is calling the shots on Venom but beyond the film’s core cast – Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Jenny Slate are all expected to co-star – there’s still much we don’t know about the project.

Situated outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we understand the pic has been angled as the opening chapter to Sony’s Spider-Man universe, while Lethal Protector, the six-issue comic book series that first hit store shelves in 1993, has been earmarked as a potential inspiration.

Directing from a script penned by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey), Fleischer’s Venom movie is expected to launch into theaters on October 5th, 2018, and when it does, it’ll use motion-capture CGI to render the titular alien symbiote. So similar to how Topher Grace’s performance was captured in Spider-Man 3, then.
