Chris Evans Wants To Play Two Characters In An Avengers/Fantastic Four Crossover

He's most famous for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the role of the Sentinel of Liberty is just the tip of the iceberg (Cap pun unintended) when it comes to Chris Evans' comic book movie appearances. As well as featuring in the likes of Snowpiercer, The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Evans played Johnny Storm AKA the Human Torch in the first Fantastic Four films.

What fans have realized is that exciting new developments in the world of cinema now mean it’s possible for Evans’ two Marvel characters to come face to face. Last month, a historic deal between Disney and Fox was made, meaning that Marvel Studios now has access to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. So, if they wanted to, Marvel could get Evans to reprise his role as Human Torch opposite himself as Captain America.

In fact, this was something that was pitched to the actor when he attended Ace Comic Con this weekend. Following a Tweet he’d previously made about the possibility of it happening, Evans made it clear that he’d definitely be up for it, but he’s not sure the brass at Marvel Studios will be on board.

“I know, like a little parent trap right? I would love that, I really would. That would be a lot of fun. I doubt they’d ever let me do that though.”

To jog your memory, Evans starred in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer, opposite Ioan Gruffud as Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman and Michael Chiklis as the Thing. Evans isn’t the only original FF member who hopes to return to his role, either. Michael Chiklis recently Tweeted that he hopes to bring a Thing vs. Hulk battle to life in the MCU.

Like Evans says, though, the likelihood of Marvel Studios tying their version of the Fantastic Four back to a duo of movies from a decade ago that only achieved middling success is slim. However, even just a tongue-in-cheek nod to Evans’ past history with the Four would surely be enough to please the fans, wouldn’t you say?
