Skydance Recruits Mackenzie Davis For The Terminator Reboot

Mackenzie Davis, star of Black Mirror and Blade Runner 2049, has been tapped to headline the rebooted Terminator series for Skydance.

With a June start date seemingly on the cards, casting is finally beginning to heat up on Tim Miller and James Cameron’s reboot of The Terminator.

Case in point: Mackenzie Davis, star of The Martian, Black Mirror, and Blade Runner 2049, has landed a key role in the franchise revival opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.

Variety has the scoop, revealing that Tim Miller has chosen Davis to be the “face of the rebooted franchise, in the vein of Hamilton’s character, Sarah Connor, in the first two movies that Cameron directed. Sources say Davis has been the studio and Miller’s top choice for a while, but the casting needed sign off from Cameron, who is currently filming the Avatar sequels.”

Indeed, it’s not all that surprising to learn that Skydance and Tim Miller sought the green light from James Cameron, director of the original Terminator classic from 1984, before welcoming Mackenzie Davis on board.

He’s “kind of supervising the whole thing,” according to Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose T-800 is expected to make its return next summer alongside franchise veteran Linda Hamilton. On paper, it makes for a nice mix between the old and the new – between one generation and the next – and we’re quietly confident that Tim Miller and his creative team will be able to avoid the pitfalls that sunk Genisys and its own planned trilogy circa 2015.

Skydance, not to be confused with Skynet, will launch the untitled Terminator reboot on July 26th, 2019. And with casting well underway, we can readily expect one or two big-name announcements before the cameras begin rolling in the summer. Stay tuned for more.
