Scooby-Doo Supernatural Crossover

Supernatural Creator Approves Of Crossover With Scooby-Doo

Even in its thirteenth season, I firmly believe Supernatural is still going strong, as I've yet to miss a single episode. Of course, it's been some time since series creator Eric Kripke was calling the shots, but the showrunners who've succeeded him - Sera Gamble, Jeremy Carver and, most recently, Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer - have done a fine job of adding to the mythology and giving us all reason to tune in. Of course, series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have a lot to do with it as well, but it all starts in the writers room.

And while a whole hell of a lot has transpired since Kripke vacated his throne after season 5, it could be argued that the upcoming crossover with Scooby-Doo will go down as one of the series’ most memorable episodes, no matter which era is being discussed.

Still, Kripke remains in the loop, being given an “executive consultant” credit. So, given that, it’s within reason that he be among the first to see the monumental mashup, which he touched on in a recent discussion with TV Line:

“I haven’t seen the live-action bookends yet, but I did get slipped all the animated stuff, which I have seen… and it’s amazing! It’s so awesome! As a kid who grew up on Scooby-Doo, it’s one of the moments in my career where I’m, like, genuinely starstruck. I cannot believe the show I created is crossing over with something as iconic as Scooby-Doo. I’ve been around a while now, but this one really blew me away. This was truly amazing.”

Granted, we were all pretty sure the crossover would turn out fantastically, but it’s great to receive some assurance ahead of time. And, as expected, it likely won’t be one for the kids, as Kripke affirms that it’s much more within Sam and Dean’s wheelhouse:

“I think what people aren’t expecting is how subversive an episode it is. It’s not just like a typical, goofy Scooby-Doo episode. It’s way more an episode of Supernatural, where it really pokes fun at the Scooby-Doo format itself. There’s some really fun meta stuff.”

Of course, we’ll keep you posted if any big news regarding “Scoobynatural” breaks, but be sure to tune in to Supernatural on Thursday, March 29 on The CW to see what kind of hijinks transpire.
