At long last, we’re starting to form a clearer picture of what Ryan Murphy has in store for us with season 8 of his hit show, American Horror Story. It’s long been rumored that it’ll take place in a post-apocalyptic future and while that remains unconfirmed, the creator has revealed at a recent event in LA that it’s set 18 months from today – so take from that what you will.

Furthermore, as we reported on earlier, Evan Peters will be returning (obviously) and among the new faces in the cast will be Joan Collins. Up until now, however, we didn’t know who she’d be playing, and while details on her role are still scarce, Murphy’s let slip that she’ll be the grandmother of Peters’ character, who’s a “comedic hair stylist.”

“The funny thing is, we shot Cult and it was very taxing on Evan, and around Thanksgiving, I was talking to Evan and he said, ‘You know this show is so hard, it’s so difficult to do’. So your part this year is a comedic part, you are comedic and you play a hairstylist,” said Murphy.

Not stopping there, the TV legend also mentioned that season 8 of American Horror Story will feel a lot like Asylum which, for those of you not keeping track, was season 2.

“[Season 8 ] is heightened [and] It’s not necessarily as real and grounded as the past season. We’re sort of getting back to Asylum, and Coven. That’s the tone of it,” said Murphy.

Set to head into production this June, we also learned from the AHS creator that three of the leads are minorities. Who those individuals are is yet to be revealed, but Murphy concluded by saying that he absolutely loves doing the show.

One of the great joys of my life is doing this show. I love this show so much,” he said. “This great group of actors who come together and get to know each other, and trust each other, and go to places…I just love the ability to reach out to people who I love, love, love, and say, ‘Hey would you like to come play in our sandbox?’”

We’ll hopefully see more of American Horror Story in the near future, with a premiere date either late this year or in early 2019. But in the meantime, tell us, do you think season 8 is shaping up to be another hit outing for the beloved series? As always, have your say in the comments section down below.
