Thanos Threatens To Snap His Fingers In New Avengers: Infinity War TV Spot

The second, full-length trailer for Avengers: Infinity War opened with the Guardians instead of closing with them like the first. Specifically, Zoe Saldana's Gamora got to kick things off with an ominous speech that handily laid out Thanos' (Josh Brolin) goal in the film. "The entire time I knew him," says the Mad Titan's adoptive daughter, "he only ever had one goal... To wipe out half the universe. If he gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with a snap of his fingers."

This will be very familiar to any fans of the comics. In The Infinity Gauntlet arc, Thanos does just that. When he gets his hands on all the Stones, or Gems as they’re called on the page, the villain snaps his fingers and halves the population of the universe – meaning that half of the human beings on Earth disappear in an instant. Whether this specific event will happen in the film itself remains to be seen, but you better believe that the Mad Titan is willing to do it.

In a brand new TV spot (up above) that made its way online tonight, Josh Brolin’s big bad threatens that very thing, telling someone (who we can’t see, but we assume is one of the Avengers) that, “I could snap my fingers, and you would all cease to exist.” It’s a pretty terrifying threat and one we know that he has no problem making good on, so it’ll be interesting to see if he actually does.

Beyond that, this latest promo also features some new dialogue between Doctor Strange and Iron Man, with the former telling Tony that he’s gone forward in time and seen all the possible outcomes. When Robert Downey Jr.’s fan favorite asks if they won any, the Sorcerer Supreme keeps quiet, instead giving him a look that tells us what he saw isn’t going to put a smile on Stark’s face.

With only a few weeks to go now until release, it really seems as if the Marvel marketing machine is firing on all cylinders. Each day brings with it a new promo of some sort for Avengers: Infinity War and this one is sure to have fans excited, given all the fresh footage it contains.

Let’s just hope that the studio’s still got a few surprises up their sleeve for us once the lights go down in theaters on April 27th. Because after 10 years and 18 movies’ worth of exposition and city-leveling spectacle, why ruin all the fun?
