Ryan Reynolds Is Upset They Cancelled The Deadpool TV Show

Just as we all are, Ryan Reynolds says he's upset that FX cancelled the Deadpool TV show, as he would've loved to have seen it.

Flanked by Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz), the Merc With a Mouth is currently generating a good deal of buzz online ahead of David Leitch’s comic book sequel, Deadpool 2, landing in theaters later this month.

Buoyed by the gigantic success of its predecessor – $783 million for a movie that was initially written off as a creative risk is certainly nothing to scoff at – there’s a real air of excitement swirling around Fox’s follow-up, and the fact that the Merc is arguably one of the most popular comic book characters in the world right now paved the way for a standalone animated TV series over at FX.

Headed up by Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming), the adult-oriented show was first announced in May of 2017, back when the network was riding high after Legion‘s warm reception. Almost a year later, however, FX revealed that unfortunately, they’d cancelled the show, before it even got the chance to get off the ground.

Understandably, fans were left reeling after the announcement and so too was Reynolds, who recently told the New York Times that he “would’ve loved to have seen what Glover did” with the project. That’s hardly surprising, though at the same time, there are rumors out there that point to the Canadian actor being one of the individuals responsible for the show getting cancelled in the first place, so who knows?

Either way, the Donald Glover-backed Deadpool series is no more, sadly, but those disappointed by the its cancellation can at least look forward to the Merc’s return in Fox’s upcoming sequel – which will be with us on May 18th – while Glover, meanwhile will be appearing on our screens for Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Look for that one to blast into theaters on May 25th.
