The Galaxy’s Greatest Hustlers Cross Paths In New Solo: A Star Wars Story Clip

Sparks fly and Sabaac ensues in this newly-unveiled clip for Solo: A Star Wars Story, which teases the first meeting between Han and Lando Calrissian.

Sparks fly and a game of Sabacc ensues in this all-new clip from Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Lucasfilm standalone pic that’s now only two weeks out from its theatrical launch.

It’s a moment that’s deeply embedded in the Star Wars lore, too, as the high-stakes card game allows Han Solo to win control of the Millennium Falcon from Captain Lando Calrissian, a mustache-twirling smuggler played by the so-hot-right-now Donald Glover.

And so, when they’re finished correcting each other’s pronunciation (it’s “suh-bawk,” not “suh-back”), the star-crossed duo roll the dice. And the rest is history.

Much like last week’s clip of Chewbacca wrangling the Falcon under control, this tantalizing preview is further proof that Solo: A Star Wars Story is about to deep dive into the origins of the galactic scoundrel, beginning with his days evading the Empire on Coreilla.

Stepped in the rich history of Hollywood’s Western genre (just take a look at those stunning new posters), the crux of Solo involves a daring heist, one that requires the know-how of high-profile gangsters and duplicitous thieves.

Han fits the bill quite nicely, of course, as does Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson), Val (Thandie Newton), and Glover’s Lando Calrissian, who will be accompanied by his fiercely loyal droid, L3-37 – voiced and performed by Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

On the other side of the moral compass is Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke), a childhood friend of Solo’s who becomes wrapped up in some Imperial entanglements of her own. Chances are she’ll contribute to Han’s quest in some shape or form, even if she’s been described as the femme fatale of Ron Howard’s spinoff.

And it’s one that will take center stage very soon indeed, as Solo: A Star Wars Story is expected to blast off on May 25th.
