DC’s Titans live-action TV series, which is headed to the company’s new streaming service DC Universe later this year, hasn’t even arrived yet, but it’s already got a spinoff. Following the team’s debut on the aforementioned show, Doom Patrol – based on another superhero group from the pages of DC comics – has been announced to be in the works.

The joint venture between Warner Bros. Digital Networks and DC Entertainment is apparently so impressive that it’s been ordered straight to series, with a 13-episode first season made up of hour-long installments in development. King of DC TV, Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse, Titans) will produce, with Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver on board as head writer.

It’s been confirmed that Doom Patrol’s roster in their own series will consist of Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane. They’ll be led by mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder, known as the Chief and if you’re wondering what makes the team different from all the other superhero groups out there, Deadline provided a handy description of what Doom Patrol is all about:

“The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.”

Intriguingly, it’s also been revealed that these reluctant heroes will be called to action by an iconic DC character – Victor Stone AKA Cyborg. This is intriguing news as, when Stone wasn’t announced as part of Titans, it was assumed he was off limits due to his major role in the DCEU. However, this is apparently not the case.

The official announcement of Doom Patrol didn’t confirm any casting details, but we can assume that those who are set to guest star as the team on Titans will reprise their roles. That means we’ll see Jake Michaels as Robotman, April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl, Dwain Murphy as Negative Man and Bruno Bichir as the Chief. No premiere date has been announced just yet, but we assume the series will arrive on DC Universe in 2019.
