Man sees his DoorDash driver’s wrecked car and notices something sitting nearby: ‘I think that’s my food right there’

'The car didn’t make it but the food did'

A TikTok creator known as TheGarageGrind says a routine DoorDash order turned into an unplanned trip to a crash scene after his driver called partway through the delivery to explain why the food was running late. According to the video, the driver told him he had been in a car accident just minutes from the creator’s house and asked if he could come meet him there to collect the order instead of waiting for it to be reassigned.

The footage shows the creator driving toward the location while narrating what he expects to find. As the scene comes into view, his tone shifts. “I didn’t know my man got in a real ass car accident cause that shit look f***d up,” he says in the clip before spotting what appears to be his order near the wrecked vehicle. “But I think that’s my food right there,” he adds, followed by, “Is it f***d up for me to walk across and pick it up?”

Walking toward the driver, the creator repeats “I’m trifling” several times, seemingly aware of how the moment looks on camera. Once he reaches the man, though, the video slows down. “You alright?” he asks. The driver, appearing responsive, replies, “Yeah, thank you, man.” The creator then says, “Damn, I’m so sorry, bro. You got an accident bringing me my food. Damn,” before taking the order and leaving.

The creator later explained why he didn’t just cancel the order

In the caption, the creator addressed people who suggested he should have just picked up the food himself in the first place or canceled the order and let DoorDash send someone new. He pointed out that the restaurant was 40 minutes away and the accident happened five minutes from his house, calling it more practical to drive over than to wait on a replacement order that would have needed to make the same round trip. “So if i’d rather pay for the convenience than spend another hour in the car going to pick up some food, i don’t see how that’s an issue,” he wrote.

The situation is a little different from other recent DoorDash mishaps, where customers have been left trying to figure out what happened to their food after it arrived. One recent case involved a woman who found her pizza box wasn’t sealed the way it should have been.

@thegaragegrind

Internet logic is crazy so i order food from a restaurant 40 minutes away, the dasher gets into an accident 5 minutes from my house, calls me and says “hey, would you be able to meet me and get your food?” and somehow y’all think the better solution is to cancel the order, send another driver 40 minutes to the restaurant, pick up the same food and drive another 40 minutes back to my house…when i can just drive 5 minutes to the dasher and get it. and before somebody says “you could’ve just picked it up yourself” I drive for a living, work long hours, have a family, and still gotta work out when i come home. so if i’d rather pay for the convenience than spend another hour in the car going to pick up some food, i don’t see how that’s an issue. y’all can’t be serious. AND NO IT AIN’T MCDONALDS 😂💀

The comments on the post are split along similar lines. One person wrote, “he got 5 stars and a good tip though right?” Another joked, “DoorDash said ‘Neither rain, sleet, hail, nor car accident, imma do my job.'”

A third suggested a different outcome entirely, writing, “You could’ve let him keep it and got a refund,” But as other customers have found, getting a refund after a DoorDash order goes wrong doesn’t necessarily mean getting the full value of what was lost

As of now, there’s no update on the driver’s condition beyond what’s shown in the clip. The creator hasn’t posted a follow-up, and the video’s caption doesn’t mention whether the two have been in touch since.
