Marvel Held A Directors Meeting Yesterday To Discuss Avengers 4 And Beyond

James Gunn has revealed that Marvel held a secret meeting with several directors yesterday to discuss plans for Avengers 4 and Phase 4.

Though it’s remained under lockdown ever since it was tentatively announced as Infinity War – Part II all those years ago, for Marvel Studios, Avengers 4 signals the end of one era and the beginning of the next.

And that’s not just some off-the-cuff guess; one glance at the MCU slate tells us that Joe and Anthony Russo’s conclusive blockbuster exists on the precipice between Phase 3 and the super-secret Phase 4, which is due to kick off with the launch of Jon Watt’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel next summer.

Couple this with the nail-biting finale of Infinity War and it’s fair to say that the Russo Brothers have their work cut out if they’re to deliver a worthy follow-up to 2018’s biggest movie. However that may be, once they’ve delivered the goods, it’ll be up to a few other filmmakers to carry on with the franchise and take us into Phase 4.

Among the many directors already set to bring us entries in the next era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are James Gunn and Ryan Coogler, who’ll be putting together Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and Black Panther 2, respectively. And so, it only makes sense that they’d be working with one another, alongside the Russos, to map out where the franchise goes next, right?

Well, as it turns out, that’s exactly what’s going on behind closed doors, as Gunn took to Twitter yesterday to tell fans that he’d just met up with Coogler and Joe and Anthony Russo, among others, for a little Marvel directors meeting. What exactly was discussed is unclear, but the filmmaker did reveal that Avengers 4 was certainly one of the topics that they spoke about, with Gunn saying Vol. 3 will need to deal with whatever happens in next May’s sequel.

Beyond that, not much else is known about what this top secret meeting might have entailed, but just the very fact that Marvel’s getting ready for a post-Avengers 4 world is hugely exciting and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
