Even though the band of misfits making up the Doom Patrol predate Marvel’s X-Men in the comic book realm, it was those merry mutants who ultimately went on to find more mainstream success. But now that this ragtag crew is getting their own series thanks to the upcoming DC Universe streaming service, they’ll finally have their time in the spotlight. That said, if you dig what’s been going on over at the House of Ideas, this may be something you’ll want to give a try.
As is the case with any intellectual property largely unknown to the masses, it seriously helps whenever well known actors are added to the mix – and that’s something this show set to spinoff from Titans may deliver on, for Kelsey Grammer is now being courted to fill the role of Dr. Niles Caulder AKA the Chief.
But if that weren’t enough, a newly surfaced synopsis (per ComicBook.com) not only gives us a better idea of what to expect, but reaffirms the involvement of Cyborg:
Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder they’re called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. Banding together these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.
Of course, we expect for someone other than Justice League‘s Ray Fisher to inhabit the role of Victor Stone in this instance, but, even so, having a more recognizable superhero on board should certainly help with drawing in curious viewers.
DC Universe is set to launch sometime this fall via iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV, in addition to offering online and mobile access. Doom Patrol, however, will likely join the party at a later date in 2019.
