Yesterday brought the awesome news that Batwoman would not only be appearing in this year’s Arrowverse crossover but that it would be the set-up for her own spinoff show to air on The CW. The announcement from TV Line revealed that the series would explore the origins of Kate Kane’s rise to become “Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Reports say that WB Television are looking to cast a lesbian actress of open ethnicity aged 25 to 29. On top of that, That Hashtag Show has got hold of a thorough character breakdown for how the Arrowverse will portray Batwoman. As you can see below, the description explains that Kate will be a “bad-ass” suffering from “inner demons” who attempted to have a “successful military career.”
“Kate is fully aware of how bad-ass she is whenever she enters a room, even though she prefers to put a smile on your face. Young Ms. Kane is physically and intellectually confident while being a woman who is proud to be openly gay. However, Kate still deals with her inner demons that go back to her history with her dad. Their relationship is quite complicated as she struggles to get praise from him. She once aspired to have a successful military career, but those dreams sadly came to an end as she was kicked out of West Point once she came out of the closet. But that didn’t stop her from becoming the crime-fighting vigilante known as Batwoman.
Striking fear into the criminals she fights, Kate is someone who must also fight the complications of living a double life, both as a citizen and hero of Gotham. While she has her shield up when fighting criminals, she lets herself be vulnerable when dating women.”
THS has also revealed when exactly we can expect to see Batwoman make her Arrowverse – and live-action – debut. According to them, the yearly crossover will air across the ninth episodes of the respective next seasons of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, which take place in December.
Shockingly, it seems that Legends of Tomorrow won’t be part of the big annual team-up this time around, as revealed by EW. While a bit disappointing, you can understand why the production teams have decided to make this decision when the cast and crew have previously admitted how stressful and difficult it is to crossover four shows at once.
At least in place of the Waverider crew, we have the debut of Batwoman and the introduction of Gotham City to look forward to instead, and as soon as we learn more about what’s in store, we’ll be sure to let you know.
