After a full 10 years away from the silver screen, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise is now more popular than ever, no thanks to the back-to-back-to-back successes of The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi. Solo? Not so much.
And while it doesn’t have the same number of gestating projects as, say, the DC Extended Universe, Lucasfilm’s franchise is evidently firing on all cylinders, and soon the company will be hoping to bring some of that success to television, where Jon Favreau has been placed in control of the first ever live-action Star Wars series.
It’ll cost a pretty penny, too – recent reports suggest Lucasfilm is willing to shell out $10 million per episode for a 10-part story – and if Discussing Film (h/t ComicBook.com) is on point, then Favreau will be ready to get the ball rolling in October, when production will reportedly commence.
Don’t take that as gospel just yet though, as Lucasfilm and Jon Favreau are still mulling over the story. Speaking of which, there’ve been rumblings that Favreau’s plotting course for Mandalore for an adventure that takes place soon after the Empire’s downfall in Return of the Jedi.
If true, it could leave the door open for a potential Boba Fett cameo – or another famous Mandalorian – while the deep-space setting goes some way to explaining those reports of the show’s sky-high budget. Only TV’s most prestigious drama series (see: Game of Thrones, The Crown) rack up a bill in excess of $100M, so it’s clear that Lucasfilm is swinging for the fences on this one.
