Ruby Rose Says Her Batwoman Role Is A Game-Changer

While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ruby Rose hailed her newfound Batwoman role as a true game-changer.

This week, the Arrowverse family got a little bigger.

Ahead of December’s traditional crossover event, The CW confirmed that Ruby Rose will be taking on the role of Kate Kane opposite her DC peers, before a potential Batwoman TV series is spun out from Caroline Dries and franchise architect Greg Berlant.

Fall 2018 is said to be the current target for Batwoman’s standalone debut, but it seems Rose is still reeling from the announcement. While promoting her giant shark thriller The Meg on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the so-hot-right-now actress began to tear up as she stressed the importance of representation.

I found out that I got cast as Batwoman. It’s a game changer. I found out an hour before I did the premiere for The Meg and I was so nervous during the red carpet that I basically skipped everybody because I kept, like, spontaneously crying. I get to be Batwoman. I feel like the reason I kept getting so emotional was because growing up watching TV I never saw someone on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero.

Taking on the mantle of Gotham’s newfound protector isn’t something that Ruby Rose is taking lightly, then, and she hopes Batwoman can be a platform for inspiration and diversity – particularly for members of the LGBTQ community.

The actress continued:

It’s like the third thing I thought about, not only can kids watch this growing up and relate to it and feel empowered and think they can be a superhero, but also I can go on and do these things like visiting hospitals and kids and people in need. It’s a really amazing opportunity, obviously. I’m very excited.

Look for Rose to swoop onto The CW via this year’s Arrowverse crossover, which will include all the usual faces save for Legends of Tomorrow. And after that? A solo Batwoman series sometime next year.
