Yesterday was practically Christmas come early for Arrowverse fans as it was revealed that Tyler Hoechlin was reprising his role as Superman for this year’s big DC TV crossover. The Man of Steel appeared on Supergirl for a few episodes of season 2 but this will be the first time he’ll get to interact with the rest of the cast of the shared universe.
Someone else who’s excited by the announcement is The Flash star Grant Gustin, who can’t wait for Hoechlin’s Superman to team up with the Scarlet Speedster. And we can look forward to lots of this apparently, as the actor revealed that the Last Son of Krypton will appear in all three episodes of the multi-night crossover.
Speaking to the outlet, Gustin said that this is something he’d be excited for even if he wasn’t part of it, stating:
“To see Flash and Superman together and to be one of the guys in the suits is something I’m definitely pretty excited about.”
The actor also said that he imagined this was something that was always on the cards for one of these yearly crossovers, which the star believes are part of the modern trend for TV to reach cinematic levels of scope and spectacle.
“It did feel like something they would always save for the features, to be honest. But I feel like the Arrowverse has kind of been changing that stigma with the whole TV is the lesser medium. I think it kind of doesn’t matter these days with the streaming and content’s kind of everywhere. So, it is cool to see us kind of rise to even another level and bring all of us together for these crossovers. It’s pretty epic.”
As well as Superman, yesterday’s announcement revealed that Lois Lane will also be making her Arrowverse debut in the crossover. The casting process is set to begin shortly for the role of the intrepid Daily Planet reporter, but it’s not yet known how large of a role she’ll have.
Of course, Superman and Lois aren’t the only notable guest stars for the Arrowverse crossover. Ruby Rose is also starring as Batwoman, setting up her own spinoff show to come next season, with the TV event at least partially set in Gotham City. It’s due to kick off with The Flash on December 9th, continue with Arrow on December 10th and conclude with Supergirl on December 11th.
