Expect Iris West to dust off her pen and paper when The Flash returns in October.
That’s because, in season 5, Candice Patton’s series stalwart will rediscover her love of reporting, as she sends her feelers into the wider Central City to catch the latest scoop.
Via TVLine (h/t Heroic Hollywood), The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing offered some insight into season 5, along with what’s in store for Iris West. Is this the year when we see Patton’s character inch that little bit closer to becoming the beating heart of a publication called Central City Citizen? Time will tell.
Iris is going to do more journalism [in Season 5] than we’ve seen in quite a while, which is fun — to get Iris out on the streets again. The whole idea is that we want to slowly build [her blog] into the Citizen, and she’s running this paper that we’ve seen since Day 1.
It’s certainly an interesting development for The Flash season 5, as Iris West has been busy tending to other things during recent installments. But the return of DC’s Scarlett Speedster next month will offer another chance to get back on the wagon. And not a moment too soon.
Indeed, the show’s fifth season is part of an incredibly busy fall schedule for The CW and DC’s TV arm, in general, what with new iterations of Supergirl, Arrow, Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow all in the can. That means viewers will be somewhat spoilt for choice in the build-up to December’s crossover episodes, which will not only herald the return of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), but also blaze a path for Ruby Rose’s Batwoman.
The Flash‘s fifth season airs via The CW on October 9th.
