When it comes to something as highly guarded as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it goes without saying that actors involved are instructed to avoid discussing major spoilers with the media. But when you don’t tell most of your employees how Avengers: Infinity War will end before the final cut hits cinemas, then you’re bound to have a few slip-ups.
In cases such as this, we have folks like Pom Klementieff saying that they’ve shot scenes for Avengers 4, which, under other circumstances, would seem quite innocuous. But when you factor in how her character of Mantis and various other heavy hitters where reduced to ash following Thanos’ reality altering snap, well, then the studio has a problem.
Here’s what Klementieff herself recently said in an interview with Paper Magazine, unknowingly spilling some beans, much like her colleague Dave Bautista:
“I remember Brie Larsen coming to me and Danai Gurira on the set of The Avengers and she told me about the [Time’s Up] letter to sign and I found it really amazing to have all these women — and men too — together in fighting for a better world. Things need to change so it’s great that we women are united and speaking out now.”
Possible reveals aside, it should excite True Believers that Mantis will share the screen with the incoming Captain Marvel and Okoye, the latter of whom many regard as being one of Black Panther‘s breakout supporting characters.
Back on the subject of Mantis, here’s what Pom had to say about the development her character has undergone:
“It’s so fun. She’s weird, she’s special, she’s in her own world and I get to do funny things and I love to do that. Oftentimes in movies like this, the guys get to do the funny things and the girls have to play the ‘stop having fun guys’ role, which is great, too, but it’s nice to have a different kind of woman. It’s fun to play that. I like to be the weirdo. People sometimes come up to me and tell me how much they love the character and feel a connection with Mantis because they themselves are not that confident or don’t feel good in their own skin.
For me, it’s really touching and important that this character exists. I think Mantis’ [story] arc inside the movie is really interesting, too, because she doesn’t know how powerful she is. She was raised in a way that she was never told that she was strong and she was living in a very meek kind of way and then meeting the Guardians opened a new world to her.”
Avengers 4 opens in theaters on May 3rd, 2019, and despite turning to dust at the end of Infinity War, it seems like Mantis will be back to help finish the fight against Thanos.
