Ruben Fleischer Updates Us On The Status Of Zombieland Too

2009's Zombieland was such a great (and profitable) horror-comedy that you'd have expected Columbia to fast-track a sequel. Yet here we are, nine years later, and not a peep. There was that abortive attempt to turn it into a television show, but it never got further than a slightly awkward pilot episode. After this long some fans could be forgiven for having lost hope, so director Ruben Fleischer has stepped into reassure us that Zombieland Too is still happening.

There was that abortive attempt to turn it into a television show, but it never got further than a slightly awkward pilot episode. After this long, some fans could be forgiven for having lost hope, but director Ruben Fleischer’s now stepped in to reassure us that Zombieland Too is still happening.

The latest update came in an interview with Fandango, where Fleischer said the following:

We’re already actually starting Zombieland. I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It’s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we’re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we’re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.

Fleischer has, of course, been very busy with Venom, which hits theaters in just a few weeks, on October 5th, and while most of the conversation with Fandango was symbiote-related, he still found some time to talk about Zombieland. Apparently, one of the biggest hurdles in getting the film off the ground was making sure Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin could all be in the same place at the same time. After all, their careers have all taken off in the last ten years, and you have to worry that some of them might consider themselves above a silly zombie movie.

That doesn’t appear to be the case though, as Fleischer has the full gang back together (including writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick). Rumor has it that the script shows us a world where the zombies have nearly been wiped out, only for a pack of “super-zombies” to emerge. Sounds pretty rad, and with filming due to take place in January 2019, I’m sure we’ll soon know a lot more about Zombieland Too in no time at all.
