Hugh Jackman Once Again Shuts Down A Return As Wolverine

Not for the first time, Hugh Jackman's been quizzed on a possible return as Wolverine, and also not for the first time, he's shut down the possibility of it happening.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds sharing the screen as Wolverine and Deadpool? Honestly, it’s the stuff dreams are made of. For many people, at least.

It actually has happened in the past, though the less said about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the better. Instead, Reynolds is hoping to rewrite X-Men history so that Logan is still alive and able to star opposite Wade Wilson in a possible DP and Wolvie team-up movie. Be that as it may, the Aussie actor just isn’t budging.

After shutting down Ryan multiple times in the lead-up to the release of Deadpool 2, Jackman has once again squashed his colleague’s dreams of making a movie together as the two heroes. Speaking to Yahoo! to promote his new film The Front Runner, the former X-Men actor was asked about a return to the role of Wolverine, and had this to say:

“Did Ryan Reynolds ask you to ask this question? Because it sounds like a trick question. I actually — for all I say — you know I love Ryan Reynolds. But right now Ryan, sorry buddy, you’re gonna have to work harder than that.”

Though millions of fans across the globe are still praying for him to return, the Australian star really does seem to be done with Logan for good. Aside from his comments here, he’s also mentioned on several occasions now that the part of Wolverine’s in his rearview mirror and there isn’t much hope of a Deadpool team-up as “that ship has sailed.”

No Jackman no party, then, but from what we understand, Reynolds is still holding onto a sliver of hope that the iconic mutant will one day – one day – claw his way back onto the scene. All of this begs the question though of whether a surprise second coming would undercut the finale of James Mangold’s Logan, which was a raw, neo-noir that closed the book on Wolvie’s saga after 17 years.

We’ll leave that one to you, and should Jackman end up changing his mind about returning to the role of Wolverine, we’ll be sure to let you know. Though at this point, it doesn’t seem likely that that’ll happen.
