Marvel Fans Are Blaming Thanos For Cancelling Iron Fist And Luke Cage

Earlier this year, TV fans were left wondering how the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was affected by Thanos' universe-halving finger snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. We've always been told that everything is connected and yet the seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones and others we've seen this year didn't reference the major event. Now, though, the affect has finally been felt.

Over the past couple of weeks, Netflix has cancelled both Iron Fist and Luke Cage. After wailing in despair for a while, Marvel fans realized that this meant that the roster of the four-strong Defenders team had been halved. Sounds like an outcome of the Infinity Gauntlet to us! You know what this means, then? Yes, Thanos moonlights as a Netflix executive.

Here are some of the funniest reactions to the shocking news of the Mad Titan’s latest victims on Twitter:

But wait, should we be crying for the fallen Defenders? One fan suggested – OK, joked – that maybe the cancellation of Luke Cage and Iron Fist is just a “great marketing tactic” of Marvel’s and the shows will be brought back following Avengers 4, much like the dusted heroes will likely come back to life as well.

Thankfully, from what we gather, the actual characters of Luke and Danny Rand have not been dusted by the streaming service, just their solo vehicles have. After Iron Fist‘s cancellation, it was confirmed that the plan’s to bring Finn Jones back in other Marvel series. Hopefully the same’s true of Luke Cage‘s Mike Colter. It’s even possible that the two productions are ending so that the pair can star in a Heroes for Hire team-up show, which would be a neat reflection of their comic book history.

For now, though, we’ll keep on blaming Thanos for everything that’s heartbreaking in the MCU.
