Luke Cage season 2

Mike Colter Blames Thanos For Cancelling Luke Cage

It's been an emotional rollercoaster for fans of Marvel's Netflix series over the past couple of weeks. First, we had the sad news that Iron Fist had been cancelled, but the blow was softened with the release of the amazing third season of Daredevil. Then our mood was brought back down again when Luke Cage became the second series to be curtailed in as many weeks. That's half of The Defenders-related shows gone, so what's Netflix playing at here?

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for fans of Marvel’s Netflix series over the past couple of weeks. Well, fans have a theory that it’s all Thanos’ fault. Just like he halved the universe with a snap of his fingers at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, it looks like he’s been giving Netflix business advice to continue his quest to cut the roster of superhero teams in half. Someone else who blames Thanos for the cancellations is Luke Cage star Mike Colter, who responded to his show ending on Instagram.

The actor shared a screenshot of the final moment of season 2 and in his caption he wrote, “All dressed up and nowhere to go, you feel me?” He then added a bunch of hashtags including “#maybeitwasthanos.” Maybe it was, Mike. Maybe it was…

As Colter reminds us, Luke Cage’s sophomore run ended on a huge cliffhanger, as the Hero of Harlem had decided to make a bold move and clear up his city from the inside, taking over Mariah Dillard’s criminal empire and effectively becoming Harlem’s new crime boss. It would’ve been fascinating to see how this changed him in a hypothetical third season, but apparently it wasn’t meant to be.

We’ve been told that Iron Fist‘s Finn Jones will reappear in other Marvel/Netflix shows following his series’ end, but we haven’t heard that about Colter as of yet. Of course, the most ideal situation would be to have a Heroes for Hire team-up show starring both Luke Cage and Danny Rand. That would really stick it to Thanos.
