Avengers: Infinity War Directors Confirm Vision Is Really Dead

A lot of people die in Avengers: Infinity War, and while it’s clear that most of these fatalities will be reversed in next year’s Avengers 4, a few deaths are arguably looking a little more real and permanent.

Among these fallen heroes is Paul Bettany’s character Vision, who was killed by Wanda Maximoff in an effort to prevent Thanos from getting his hands on the Mind Stone, only to be brought back to life and killed again by the Mad Titan himself. Nonetheless, some fans have been clinging to the hope that the character’s essence lives on in the Infinity Stone that was once lodged in his head and is now fixed into Thanos’ gauntlet. But when this possibility was suggested to directors Anthony and Joe Russo at the pair’s recent Q&A, Joe was quick to shoot down the idea, confirming once and for all that Vision is indeed dead.

While Russo’s answer certainly puts a damper on a few forum theories, it’s likely that the fans won’t be giving up just yet on the idea of seeing the android in future MCU projects, especially with all these predictions of time travel making the rounds. After all, the Russo Brothers clarified at the same Q&A that Loki’s supposed death in Infinity War was, in fact, very genuine, and yet Thor’s brother already has his own TV show lined up.

Bettany himself was asked about a potential Vision return earlier this year, and though his response offered no definitive answers, he at least kept the option open, saying:

“I happen to know what’s going to happen to Vision, and … what I can tell fans is that, ‘Snitches end up with stitches in ditches.’ And I, I’ve done very well keeping my mouth shut for the last 10 years, and I’m going to continue to keep my mouth shut.”

With the untitled Avengers: Infinity War sequel looking to see the return of a few characters who previously seemed quite dead, perhaps there’s still be a place for Bettany in Marvel’s Phase 3 finale when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
