Charlie Cox Says There’s A Chance He Won’t Play Daredevil Again

At the end of November, Netflix decided to ruin Christmas for Marvel TV fans everywhere by pulling the plug on Daredevil after just three seasons. The superhero series had routinely been called one of the best original shows on the streaming service, with the recent outing described by many as the best run yet, but apparently that wasn't enough to save it from cancellation.

At the end of November, Netflix decided to ruin Christmas for Marvel TV fans everywhere by pulling the plug on Daredevil after just three seasons. The superhero series had routinely been called one of the best original shows on the streaming service, with the recent outing described by many as the best run yet, but apparently that wasn’t enough to save it from cancellation.

Those involved with the production have expressed their sadness on social media over the past week, but someone we hadn’t heard from was Matt Murdock himself, Charlie Cox. EW’s now caught up with the British star, though, and he’s revealed his feelings about the end of the show. Understandably, he’s still in shock as he thought Daredevil had many seasons left to go.

“A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did. The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that.”

Cox then went on to say how much the world of Daredevil means to him personally and still can’t get his head around the fact that he might never suit up as the Man Without Fear again.

“But also, these characters mean a lot to people. It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years.”

For fans of the show, it’s tough to read Cox’s comments. The actor’s always been so committed to playing the character and has clearly had a terrific time embodying Matt Murdock. As such, it’s heartbreaking that his time in the role has been cut prematurely short. He’s the definitive portrayal of Daredevil, much the same way that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are for Iron Man and Captain America, respectively.

Hopefully, Cox will get the chance to play Daredevil again, though we’re not sure how that’d happen. All the evidence suggests the show wouldn’t be at home on the family-friendly Disney+ streaming service and a movie spinoff seems unlikely. If this does turn to out to be it then, we’d just like to say thanks for the great performance, Charlie.
