The Avengers: Endgame Trailer May’ve Disproved A Major Fan Theory

In the absence of much to go on except the odd LEGO box, picture from the set or leaked bit of concept art, fans have been going theory-crazy about what's going to occur in Avengers: Endgame. One of the most common theories was that the film would start with a years-long time jump after the end of Infinity War. This would give some breathing room for a new status quo to establish itself, with heroes rising to fill the gaps left by those who fell in the Decimation, and developments like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts having had a child during this time.

Now, however, after having seen the trailer, some think that this theory has been categorically disproved. A bit of time certainly appears to have passed, but it’s no more than a few weeks as the characters are still getting over the shock of what Thanos did. This leaves Captain America and Black Widow depressed and apparently hopeless in a run-down looking Avengers HQ, Tony Stark and Nebula lost in space together as they try to return to Earth, and Thanos having happily established himself as a father.

However, all that might not disprove everything about the theory. For all we know, Potts was already pregnant when Stark abruptly left Earth during Infinity War, and by the time he returns she may well have given birth to the child. If there’s some Interstellar-style wormhole stuff going down, the kid might even be a couple of years old when he returns. Similarly, we’ve seen from concept art that Black Widow has reverted to long red hair at some point. Since she’s still got a bleach blonde bob in the trailer, that might suggest there’s a time jump within the film itself.

After all, the entirety of Avengers: Infinity War took place over about two days, but you have to figure that the sequel must take a little longer in order to see the surviving heroes pick themselves up off the canvas and get ready for whatever final fight they have to face.

Regardless, we’ll find out for sure when Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas on April 26th, 2019.
