Before the long-awaited first trailer for Avengers: Endgame finally dropped, the fans were so desperate for content from the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel that even a single, cryptic photo from directors Anthony and Joe Russo could make the internet lose its mind.

One such case was the bright blue image that was tweeted by the Russo Brothers back in October and sent the fans into full speculation mode, with suggestions of what this indistinct object could be ranging from a proton canon to a section of the film’s title card. And while most of the internet had long moved on from this tease by the time some actual footage from the movie arrived, it seems that this little mystery just might have been solved.

Reddit user Carter122 has posted a screenshot of the oft-scrutinized tweet alongside a still from the new trailer featuring Iron Man’s helmet. The latter is taken from a scene in which a stranded Tony Stark records what he believes to be his last video message before his ship runs out of oxygen. And to show that the helmet is recording his monologue, the eyes are projecting a bright light that creates a shape and a color that’s notably similar to the Russo Brothers’ picture.

While there’s still room for doubt on the idea, this is probably the most plausible explanation we’ve seen so far of what the directors might’ve been teasing, though some fans were likely hoping that the Russo Brothers were building up to a bigger reveal (we kind of already figured we’d see Iron Man’s helmet in the film).

In any case, Anthony and Joe Russo may or may not offer some confirmation on their tweet in the near future, but the biggest questions that the Avengers: Endgame trailer left us with will likely be saved for when the film hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
