The CW Picks Up Ruby Rose’s Batwoman Pilot

Deadline is reporting today the Batwoman, starring Ruby Rose, has received a pilot pickup over at The CW following the character's debut in "Elseworlds."

It’s probably fair to say that for a lot of people, their favorite thing about the “Elseworlds” crossover was that of Ruby Rose’s debut as Batwoman. If social media is any indication, most of you reading this are probably in agreement. I mean, not only did Gotham City’s new protector come across as being badass, but the actress was perfect in the role. Heck, her voice even sounded like you’d imagine it would from reading the comics.

As such, it’s no surprise to now learn that The CW has picked up the pilot for Kate Kane’s standalone series. Deadline’s reporting that the network’s given a pilot order to Batwoman, with David Nutter (who also helmed the pilot for The Flash) tapped to direct. This was expected to happen given the strong script which came in last month and the positive reception to Rose’s debut in “Elseworlds,” but it’s still nice to hear that it’s official.

At the moment, not much is known about Batwoman‘s first season, but character breakdowns for the pilot revealed that the casting department’s looking to fill key roles such as Luke Fox/Batwing, Renee Montoya, Jacob Kane and Alice. If that last one sounds especially familiar to those who read the comics, it should, as Alice is Kate’s estranged sister, who’ll likely serve as her first big bad.

Of course, we can also tell you that Batwoman takes place on Earth-1, which means that smaller scale crossovers with Arrow and The Flash will be much easier to plot. We imagine that the disappearance of both Bruce Wayne and Batman personas will be a central mystery in the show as well, but that’s just some speculation on our part. With the pilot pickup now having been confirmed, though, you can expect to learn a lot more about the upcoming series in no time at all.
