Earlier this week, a report indicated that principle photography for Star Wars: Episode IX has entered its winding down period, with the production team now reduced to small skeleton crews. But though this might well be the case, it seems that there’s still a fair amount of spectacle being filmed on the set of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming release, with John Boyega taking to Instagram to tease one visually striking scene in particular.
The actor known for playing Resistance fighter Finn shared a mysterious photo of two hands with a single drop of blood on them. In the caption, Boyega indicates that the scene he’s just shot will be a moment to remember, writing:
“Great working day on set!! The whole team pushed themselves today to achieve something visually crazy! I’ve had many moments of shock on set but not like today and I can’t wait until you know why”
Boyega then ends his message with the hashtag #FN2187 in reference to his character’s original Stormtrooper name.
Chances are, we’ve still got most of the year to wait before we find out what “visually crazy” scene Boyega is referring to, but based on all we’ve heard previously, Abrams is really going all out with the spectacle of this next picture. Multiple sources have claimed to be bowled over by the sheer scale of the production, with a report from a just a few days ago claiming that the sets are “so f**king colossal compared to what they did in the past.”
From the sound of things, Star Wars: Episode IX will be going big even by the standard of this generously budgeted franchise, but we’ll find out just how big when the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019. In the meantime, here’s hoping the current predictions of an official title reveal will come to something in the next few weeks.
