Star Wars: Episode IX Title Will Reportedly Be Revealed This Month

It’s a subject that’s addressed in a recent piece from The Hollywood Reporter, which observes how the official subtitle of The Last Jedi was announced on January 23rd, 2017, suggesting that we could well have a name by the end of the month. Scott Mendelson ‏of Forbes, meanwhile, chimed in via Twitter with the similar forecast that the title will be dropping in three weeks.

That being said, there’s also been some speculation that the 53rd Super Bowl on February 3rd will be the right time for such an announcement, but either way, the online consensus is very much that the title drop is less than a month away.

As for what this subtitle might actually be, the THR piece offers a few suggestions – namely, “The Knights of Ren,” “The Ashes of the Empire,” “The Rising Tyranny” and “A Spark of Hope.” And while these may not all be the catchiest of names, the article makes a worthwhile point when it observes how “The Last Jedi” was taken from the opening crawl of The Force Awakens, suggesting that this next movie could also takes its name from the previous installment.

Incidentally, another rumored subtitle that got a little traction last month was “Son of Darkness,” which was a name that Snoke used for Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi. But regardless of what we end up calling it, Star Wars: Episode IX will be hitting theaters on December 20th, 2019.
