Arrow EP Reveals “Star City 2040” Episode Is Coming

Those of you who've been keeping up with the current season of Arrow have no doubt been witness to the latest storytelling element employed by the writers, that being the flash forward. In stark contrast to seasons 1-5 detailing Oliver Queen's time abroad via flashbacks, we're now being thrust twenty years into the future in order to see a Star City with a dramatically changed landscape in various respects.

As such, viewers have been trying to pin down what year the future sequences take place in, not to mention scratching their heads wondering how certain characters got to that point. Furthermore, some theorized this was all prelude to Legends of Tomorrow‘s “Star City 2046,” but that notion has been shot down because said adventure is not being regarded as Arrow‘s canonical future.

Still, some tribute to that will be paid when – get this – Arrow rolls out “Star City 2040” later this season. Details remain sketchy at the moment, but executive producer and showrunner Beth Schwartz posted the following photo on Twitter bearing the caption of “coming soon.”

Funny enough, I did suspect a title similar to this being used for episode 7×14, but I guess we’ll have to wait until 7×16. Either way, learning that Schwartz herself is co-writing this bad boy – in addition to James Bamford directing – tells us that it’ll be required viewing.

Given the show’s current schedule, it’d be fair to assume that “Star City 2040” will debut in either late February or early March. And when it gets here, there’s a very good chance it’ll focus very little on the present because, well, it’d make little sense for it to do so.

Arrow airs on Monday nights on The CW.
