James McAvoy Makes His Pitch To Play Young Picard In New Star Trek TV Series

In a recent interview with MTV, James McAvoy made his case for playing a young version of Captain Picard in the upcoming Star Trek show.

They said it would never happen, but Patrick Stewart is all set to reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming Star Trek TV series.

Yes, the wheels are now in motion to do what once seemed impossible and bring back the most beloved captain in the franchise’s history. But who could CBS look to if they need someone to portray a young Picard in flashbacks? Assuming the show will even utilize flashbacks, that is.

Well, there are a number of talented individuals who could get the job done, but few could do it better than James McAvoy. Not only is he a terrific actor, but he’s also already played a young Patrick Stewart in the X-Men films, so you know he’d be able to nail a younger version of the iconic captain.

And apparently, McAvoy really wants to get involved in the series, too. Speaking to MTV in a recent interview, the actor made his case to CBS, saying:

“I will take you where no Star Trek fan has gone before. I will reveal things about Jean-Luc Picard that nobody even wanted to see. I will rip this captain to shreds.”

Continuing on, McAvoy admitted that he doesn’t expect to get the call, but said that he’s still very excited for the show and can’t wait to watch it.

“No, I’m not expecting to get a call to play the young Jean-Luc, unfortunately,” McAvory said. “But I will be tuning in and I can’t wait to see what he does because he’s a brilliant actor and he’s amazing in that role and it’s just nice that Star Trek are looking forward than just spaceship and a crew, do you know what I mean? They’re doing something different, and that’s awesome.”

We wholeheartedly agree with the actor here, and we think we speak for everyone when we say we simply cannot wait to see Patrick Stewart back as Captain Picard. Especially since everything we’ve heard about the series so far sounds very intriguing. And while it’s still early, early days for the project, the Star Trek franchise is absolutely thriving on television right now and with a lot more to come in the very near future, there’s never been a better time to be a Trekkie.
