Among the various characters to make their DCEU debuts in Cathy Yan’s flick is Roman Sionis, better known as Black Mask, who can be spotted in a couple of shots in the recent preview. One element you may find to be conspicuously absent from the character’s design is his actual black mask, but we can probably assume that this menacing look will be revealed in due time.

From what we’ve heard, the film will see Harley team up with Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya – played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez, respectively – to save the young Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from the wrath of Black Mask. Actress and producer Margot Robbie mentioned last year that she pitched the project to Warner Bros. as an “R-rated girl gang film,” adding that she didn’t ever want Harley to do her own standalone flick.

Nonetheless, while this may not technically be a Harley solo movie, the Clown Princess of Crime is still the one with her name in the title, and is also by far the character with the most screen time in the new teaser. Indeed, it makes sense that Harley would be at the forefront of the promotion seeing how she’s the only familiar figure in the mix, though many fans are already hoping that Black Mask will be more than just a one-movie villain, not least because he’s yet to face off with his most famous foe Batman.

We’ll find out if Birds of Prey leaves audiences wanting more from Roman Sionis when the film hits theaters on February 7th, 2020.
