The LEGO Batman’s Will Arnett Reveals Who He Wants As The Next Dark Knight

With Ben Affleck confirmed to have hung up his cape and cowl for the last time, Warner Bros. is now looking for a new Dark Knight for Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman. Numerous stars, both established and upcoming, have had their names put forward to be the next Bruce Wayne. Speaking at the premiere for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, LEGO Batman himself, Will Arnett, was asked by Variety who he’d like to see play the next Caped Crusader. With his typical humor, the Arrested Development star began by saying “Oh, I don’t know,” before slipping into his LEGO Batman voice and adding: “You tell me.” #ArnettForTheBatman, anyone?

It’s weird to think that Will Arnett has now played Batman at least as many times as Affleck did. The latter starred as the Caped Crusader in Batman V Superman and Justice League as well as having a small cameo in Suicide Squad. Arnett, meanwhile, has appeared in both LEGO Movies and also starred in his own film, The LEGO Batman Movie – something that it turns out Affleck won’t get to do.

The latest word on WB’s hunt for Batman is that they want a “familiar face” for the part. This has helped Armie Hammer to find himself as the current odds-on favorite for the job. He’d definitely be a solid choice, too, as he’s been circling DC roles for years now and fans have wanted him for every part from Shazam to Green Lantern. Not to mention that he almost played Batsy in George Miller’s unmade Justice League: Mortal.

Whoever manages to get the highly-coveted role is expected to be revealed around May or June, by current estimates. We’re anticipating someone in their late 20s/early 30s so as to play a younger version of the DCEU Batman, which Hammer would fit. But would he be your ideal choice for The Batman, or should the live-action franchise retire and let LEGO Batman take it from here? Sound off below with your thoughts.
