Here’s How Gotham Will Handle David Mazouz Suiting Up As Batman

For years, I'd naturally assumed that Gotham would employ the use of a stuntman when rolling out its version of Batman in the eventual series finale. As it turns out, recent news has revealed my educated guess to be both correct and incorrect.

You see, even though the concluding episode is set to take place ten years into the future, the creative minds behind the show likely feel it’s their duty to assure that David Mazouz ultimately feature as the Caped Crusader in some capacity. As such, it was revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour yesterday how the young actor will be seen under the mask, and that he’ll debut his “Batman growl.”

Now, we’re learning that camera trickery will be utilized in order to achieve the desired effect. In other words, the 5’8 Mazouz will be shown in closeups, while a 6’4 fellow will be in the suit for the rest of the time – probably in long shots and action scenes.

If anything, learning that we’ll be treated to a full-on Dark Knight should reassure those fearing a repeat of Smallville‘s finale. Basically, we won’t see a CGI stand-in after years of anticipation. Yes, we’ll witness the Batman himself kicking ass.

For more on the show’s immediate future, be sure to check out the official synopsis for the next new episode to arrive, “13 Stitches”:

Gordon assembles an unlikely team to protect Gotham from Eduardo Dorrance (guest star Shane West) and his Delta Force. Just as Lee Thompkins resurfaces, Barbara reveals shocking news that will change Gordon’s life forever. Meanwhile, Selina and Penguin team up to outsmart fellow villain Magpie (guest star Sarah Schenkkan) in the all-new “13 Stitches” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Feb. 14 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Gotham returns with new episodes on Thursday, February 14th on Fox.
