Some Theaters Reportedly Already Have The Star Wars: Episode IX Trailer

Seeing how the official title of The Last Jedi was unveiled as soon as January 23rd on the year of its release, it’s clear that Lucasfilm is working on a notably different schedule for the promotion of Star Wars: Episode IX, making it difficult to predict just when and how the next big unveiling might be coming our way. But while the old rumors and theories of an imminent teaser drop have calmed down in recent weeks as fans come to accept that we really don’t know what Disney has in mind, a new report from Fantha Tracks makes the pretty bold claim that the first set of footage may already be in the hands of UK cinemas.

Though it’s said that nobody has actually seen the teaser just yet, the site’s source alleges that the preview is all but ready to show in theaters, with the full report reading as follows:

“A major UK cinema chain has received a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) from Disney this morning called TT1-SW9, (Teaser Trailer 1 Star Wars 9). It’s encrypted with a KDM (Key Delivery Message) so they can’t view the contents until they get the key.

No news on when they’ll get the key, but they had the Aladdin trailer DCP for two weeks before it came out on Monday…therefore, Friday might be the day, but that’s pure speculation.”

Naturally, this should all be taken with a pretty sizable grain of salt, but while it’s not looking too likely that the teaser will drop today, it should become clear within the next couple of weeks whether or not the rumor has it right.

In the meantime, the popular prediction is that a full Star Wars: Episode IX trailer is being saved for Star Wars Celebration in April, and at this rate, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if we didn’t get the title drop until then, either. In fact, according to actor Dominic Monaghan, director J.J. Abrams is still the only one who knows the movie’s official title, but regardless of when the filmmaker is ready to let the rest of us in on the secret, you can bet he’ll still have plenty of surprises saved up for when the pic hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
