The Flash Gets A New Showrunner For Season 6

In addition to possibly losing a major cast member or two this summer, there's more change on the horizon for The Flash as it heads into its sixth season. Believe it or not, this is at the very top of the food chain, as the DC Comics-based series is set to gain a new head honcho.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, current showrunner Todd Helbing is stepping down so that Eric Wallace may take his place. This isn’t the first time management has experienced a change in status quo, as Helbing took over for Andrew Kreisberg some time ago.

Here’s what fellow executive producer Greg Berlanti had to say about the passing of the torch:

“From his first day on The Flash, Todd Helbing has been a leader on the show, beloved by the cast and crew for his exceptional talent, vision and wonderful attitude. We are all sad to see him go, but we will all be better for the many shows he will no doubt create and run in the future. Eric Wallace has proven his own exceptional talent and voice since season four, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to watch how he shapes the future of Team Flash and the many thrilling adventures that lay ahead for our characters and dedicated fans.”

Seeing as how The Flash in its current form is arguably the best it’s been since season 2 and how Wallace plays a big part in that, I’m sure having him overseeing things virtually assures that same measure over quality will continue on into season 6.

Actually, Arrow experienced something similar last year when Beth Schwartz took over for Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle. If you were to ask me, that show is still firing on all cylinders, so I see no reason why its sister series shouldn’t do likewise.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
