This weekend, Game of Thrones is set to wrap up ten years and eight seasons of epic plots and thrilling character development. Unfortunately, though, it’ll be with a final batch of episodes that some fans say have been exactly the opposite.

Indeed, it seems every outing this season has been divisive. Viewers are upset and stars are disappointed with their characters’ arcs, and to make things worse, just like clockwork, the season finale’s plot has leaked online. And if it’s anywhere near accurate, it isn’t going to get any better.

In an interview back in March with Entertainment Weekly though, which has resurfaced this week, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff actually warned us that we may be in for a disappointing finale, as they can’t please everyone.

“We want people to love it. It matters a lot to us,” said Weiss. “We’ve spent 11 years doing this. We also know no matter what we do, even if it’s the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions. There is no version where everybody says, ‘I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this.’ That’s an impossible reality that doesn’t exist. I’m hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it’s like, ‘Is that an A or an A+?’”

Benioff continued:

“From the beginning we’ve talked about how the show would end. A good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending. Of course we worry.”

Judging from social media and just chatting with other fans in general, he’s right to be worried about the backlash from this Sunday’s finale. After all, it was the same, but different, with Avengers: Endgame. Fans had invested over a decade in their favorite characters but thankfully, Endgame wisely wrapped up most of their storylines perfectly. Unfortunately, it seems that GoT is going to do the opposite and severely disappoint their longtime viewers. And not just disappoint. No, we’re talking petitions with over a million signatures to rewrite season 8 levels of disappointment.

Anyways, regardless of how bad or good the series finale of Game of Thrones is, we’ll be saying goodbye to it this Sunday. Will you be one of the 10 million fans who plan on calling in sick to work the next day, though? Be sure to let us know down below.
