Petition To Remake Game Of Thrones Season 8 Sparks Major Backlash

There are two sure signs a TV show is either doing something very right, or very wrong. First, with each passing week, it tops the trending hashtags on Twitter. And second, petitions are drafted demanding everyone be fired and the series remade. Game of Thrones, it seems, has all of those problems and then some this season.

The penultimate episode, “The Bells” aired this past Sunday and some viewers just couldn’t take it anymore. At the time of this writing, over 665,000 to be exact. Over on Change.org, a petition has been created with one sole purpose. I quote: “Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers.” Now, restoring some of my hope in humanity, Twitterers have started throwing their two cents in on the controversy, and these fans aren’t having any of the petition.

I get it. Writers have rushed GoT‘s final season. Seven runs of brilliant character development squashed. And of course, let’s not forget how Jon treated his direwolf, Ghost. We aren’t getting over that any time soon. But to think a petition could actually get multiple (extremely expensive) episodes remade? Episodes, by the way, that’ve been bringing in record-breaking viewer numbers for HBO – it’s simply crazy.

Not surprisingly, Rotten Tomatoes has given Sunday’s airing the worst rating in the show’s history. However, if you’re like me, that sentence would have lost your interest at “Tomatoes.” That site’s opinion is about as useful as nipples on a breastplate (RIP Cersei).

Anyways, here are some of the best reactions to this petition, which I truly hope never reaches its goal of 1,000,000 signatures.

Like it or love it, Game of Thrones is over after this Sunday. The only question that remains is, will you be tuning in to see how it all ends?
